Interview as a Service for AI, ML, and Data Science Roles

Expert-led candidate evaluations — without pulling your engineers off real work.

Interview as a Service

What this service is

A straightforward technical interview service for AI, machine learning, data science, and related roles. We conduct a live candidate interview on your behalf, evaluate technical depth and practical judgment, and deliver a structured scorecard with a clear hiring recommendation. Designed for companies that need stronger technical signal without overloading internal teams.

Most companies cannot evaluate AI, ML, and data science candidates the way they can evaluate software engineers. The domain is narrow, the terminology changes fast, and the wrong hire in a technical AI role is expensive — both in direct cost and in the time it takes to recognize and reverse the mistake. Interview as a Service gives you access to a domain expert who can assess the things that matter: whether a candidate's understanding of LLMs, ML systems, or statistical modeling is genuine and deep enough to do the job you are hiring for. You share the role brief, we conduct the interview and score the candidate, and you receive a structured recommendation you can act on — without pulling your engineers off their actual work.

Problems this solves

  • Your engineers are spending 8–10 hours per week on interviews instead of shipping — and quality suffers when interviewers are stretched thin
  • No one on your team has deep enough AI/ML domain knowledge to evaluate candidates reliably at the level the role requires
  • Inconsistent interview feedback across different interviewers makes it hard to compare candidates or justify hire/no-hire decisions
  • Slow scheduling — getting an interview done means finding the right internal expert, coordinating calendars, and hoping the interview is rigorous enough to be useful
  • You have made a hire that looked credible in the interview but lacked real depth on the job — and you want a more reliable evaluation process going forward

What you receive

  • Live 45-minute technical interview conducted by a PhD-level practitioner
  • Role-specific questions aligned to the position requirements and seniority level
  • Structured scorecard with clear evaluation across key technical competency areas
  • Hire / No-hire recommendation with supporting rationale and specific evidence
  • Delivery within the agreed turnaround window
  • Choice of Sunrayhire-led or white-label delivery — interviews can be presented under your brand for agency clients

How it works

1

Role brief

You share the role description, seniority level, and what matters most for this hire. We calibrate the interview questions and evaluation criteria from there — the input required from your team is minimal.

2

Live interview

We conduct the technical evaluation via video call, using questions calibrated to the role and level. The interview is live — allowing the evaluator to probe answers, follow up on interesting threads, and assess how the candidate reasons under pressure.

3

Scorecard delivery

You receive a structured scorecard covering technical depth, practical judgment, and role fit — with a clear hire/no-hire recommendation backed by specific evidence from the interview. Something you can act on, not raw notes to interpret.

Who this is for

  • Hiring managers who need independent technical evaluation for AI, ML, or data science roles
  • Companies without deep AI/ML/DS interview expertise in-house
  • Teams conducting too many interviews to maintain quality across all of them
  • Organizations that want a neutral, structured evaluation for high-stakes technical hires

Frequently asked questions

How much time do we need to spend preparing for each interview?

Your primary input is the role brief — the position description, the seniority level you are targeting, and any specific requirements or context that matter for this hire. We calibrate the interview questions and evaluation criteria from there. Most clients spend 15–30 minutes on the role brief and are not involved in the interview itself.

Is this a live video interview or an async assessment?

All interviews are conducted live via video call. A live interview allows the evaluator to probe answers, follow up on interesting threads, and assess how the candidate reasons under pressure — none of which is possible with an async format. This produces substantially stronger signal than automated screening or take-home assessments.

Do you interview at all experience levels?

Yes. We evaluate candidates from mid-level through staff and principal. The interview structure and scoring bar are calibrated to the seniority level of the role, so an interview for a senior ML engineer looks meaningfully different from one for a mid-level AI engineer. Seniority expectations are established in the role brief.

How does the scorecard help us make a hiring decision?

The scorecard covers key technical competency areas relevant to the role — typically four to six areas depending on the position. Each area includes a rating, specific evidence from the interview, and the evaluator's reasoning. The final hire/no-hire recommendation is clearly stated with a rationale. You receive something you can act on, not raw notes you have to interpret.

What if we are evaluating multiple candidates for the same role?

We use consistent evaluation criteria across all interviews so the scorecards are directly comparable. This makes it much easier to differentiate candidates on the same dimensions rather than trying to reconcile interviews conducted by different people using different approaches.

Can we use this for a role adjacent to AI/ML — like a data engineer or MLOps engineer?

Our strongest evaluation coverage is for AI engineers, ML engineers, and data scientists — these are the roles we have built the deepest interview capability for. If your role is adjacent, contact us and we can discuss whether the evaluation would be useful for your specific hiring context.

Do we need to book a call first, or can we buy directly?

For standard one-off evaluations, you can buy directly — no call required. Go to the Buy page, complete the intake form after purchase, and we schedule from there. If your requirements are more complex — confidential role context, custom evaluation criteria, NDA-first conversations, or vendor onboarding — start with a call instead and we will scope the engagement appropriately.
